if you raise the minimum wage, THE PRICE OF MILK GOES UP. Thats not going to help.
Food inflation is rising a lot quicker than minimum wage. Please educate yourself before you make an ignorant comment and tag a post under ‘stupid’.
Raising the wages will make companies lay off many people. Not all of them will be able to pay more for the same work and the same revenue. Think about it.
The federal minimum wage has stood at $7.25 for 5 year yet labor continues to increase.
That amount, when adjusted for inflation, is actually lower than what a minimum-wage worker earned in 1968 (which was $10.58/hour) and is too meager to offer anyone the chance to climb out of poverty, let alone afford basic goods and services.
We have increased the minimum wage countless times in the pass, never has is increased unemployment.
CEO’s make 380 times the average worker’s salary. In 2011, the average CEO made $9.6 million. I think they can afford to pay their workers a few dollars extra per hour.
For those of you that were raging against this bill.
For those of you that don’t know about this bill, this bill was passed by Congress on Tuesday. Basically put, this allows the military to detain, torture, interrogate, and assassinate citizens without reason and without fair trial. A member of the military could shoot you down right on the street for the simple fact that they don’t like you. This bill is unconstitutional and would destroy our freedom. As Americans, we have the right to act against this bill (whilst we still can).
Even is Obama vetoes this bill, without our voice, Congress can override it with the overwhelming amount of support it received (97-3 in favour of the bill).
Call, email, write your representatives and tell them that you do not want this bill put into play. It violates the constitution, people will misuse their power if this bill got an overriding vote, it denies the basic American freedoms in the First Amendment.
Here are directories that give information to contact your Senators and Representatives.
And here’s how you can figure out the congressional district in which you belong: http://www.govtrack.us/ congress/ findyourreps.xpd?state=CA
It may take some navigation on the pages.
We must act against this if we wish to continue enjoying our simplest American freedoms without worry.
Reblog to spread the word. Most importantly, contact your representatives. If their voicemail is full, wait a day, and call again. Use all possible routes of communication to let them know that you are serious.
We can do this folks. The simplest thing we can do is act.
brb, moving to Sweden.
I’m sure this bill was highly inspired for OWS, too…
Just thirteen days ago I was eight months pregnant.
Everyone loved rubbing my belly.
I even wore my “Baby On Board” shirt over my gigantic stomach.
Yeah uh…you should know the sort of danger you could potentially be putting yourself in if you go to the OWS lines.
I’m sorry, but I just can’t feel sympathy for this woman.
It just feels like it goes back around to people assuming they are entitled to special treatment because they are pregnant/have a baby, and that they should be exempt from the rules.
That’s.not.how.it.works…as much as they would like it to, and as much as some people enable their catering thinking.
If you are 8 months pregnant, and you willing throw yourself into something where you KNOW brutalities are being committed, then you are a dumb one.
I have no heart.
Read and reblog please.
Oh my gosh folks. THIS JUST GOT FREAKING REAL. Apparently, they will be listening to Hollywood and other representatives in FAVOR of the bill, but they are refusing to listen to representatives OPPOSED to the bill when they have the hearings. THEY ARE ALREADY CENSORING by disallowing opponents of the bill!
● Authorities’ treatment in regards to OWS
- The entertainment/sport industry > Everything else
● Pizza is a vegetable
Sounds like what America will be like in the next few years.
Also, the Internet right now.
Twitter, already long ago confirmed for filtering protest related words from trending, but now it’s outright stopping people from retweeting the content.
Say hello to freedom of censorship.
If they’re doing it at behest of the government then the government can be sued for prior restraint.
If they’re doing it on their own initiative, then every Libertarian supporter of #OWS should immediately start rethinking their view of private property rights.
i was trying to rt wil wheaton a few days ago and it kept telling me it couldn’t. i thought it was weird so i tried to rt someone else and it did
What the fuck I am fucking terrified
Emotionally intense images of retired Philadelphia police captain Ray Lewis - who has joined the #OccupyWallStreet protests - being arrested by the NYPD.
Captain Lewis has been outspoken against the NYPD’s wrongful use of violence against peaceful protesters.
From what I have seen, Ray Lewis’ conduct defines honor, bravery, and dignity.
There is a media blackout on images of his participation in the protest, and on his arrest:
It’s proved impossible for me to get this shot of former Philadelphia Police Cpt. Ray Lewis being arrested, published anywhere. I was adamantly rebuffed by the Philadelphia Inquirer, NYT, local NY papers, and Newsweek, before even looking at the photograph. One of the only published photos of this paradoxical and intense event is located here at the NYC Observer:
Make this viral and they will come.
Ray Lewis gets 2 posts this morning, because this needs to be seen. I’m not even sure why, but this pair of photos made me cry hysterically.
oh my god. so much props to this man. this country has turned into utter fucking insanity.
America: Land of the free indeed.
Only if you are protesting things that have to do with sports. Then you can do whatever you want, and you get treated with the utmost respect by the authorities.
